Set The Record Straight
Where This Happened
We are not going to hide the names of communities when discussing our own experience with them.
DaemonCore Academy attempted to introduce and discuss our free cybersecurity training through major Reddit communities, including r/hacking and r/cybersecurity. Our efforts to promote the Academy were restricted or resulted in bans.
Those communities have every right to establish their own rules. Their moderators have every right to decide what appears on their platforms.
And you have every right to know how those decisions are made when deciding which communities deserve your participation.
We believe there is a meaningful difference between protecting a community from spam and preventing people from discovering a legitimate educational resource because the organization responsible for it is also willing to talk about what it built.
DaemonCore Academy is free. We are not disguising an affiliate link. We are not selling access to the Academy. We are not pretending to be an unaffiliated user recommending our own product. When we talk about DaemonCore, we tell you that we built it.
We have also seen allegations and rumors about DaemonCore circulated alongside attempts to discourage people from using or discussing the project. We are documenting those claims and responding to them publicly. Where something is demonstrably false, we will provide the evidence. Where somebody raises legitimate criticism, we will address it. Where something is simply an opinion, people are entitled to it.
We are not asking anyone to harass moderators, brigade communities, evade bans, or break subreddit rules. Do not do that.
We are asking people to pay attention.
Look at what was posted. Look at what was removed. Look at the stated reason. Look at our response. Look at the evidence. Then make your own decision about whether those communities represent the kind of open cybersecurity culture you want to participate in.
That principle applies to DaemonCore too.
Question us. Challenge us. Inspect what we build. Hold us accountable when we get something wrong.
Just hold everyone else to the same standard.
We are setting the record straight because reputation should be determined by evidence, not repetition.
No anonymous rumor gets the final word.
The receipts do.
